MediaCity 4 · May 3–5, 2013
The MediaCity 4 International Conference, Workshops, and Exhibition took place May 3–5, 2013, at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. The program brought together researchers and practitioners examining pluralities, globalities, and the relations between urbanity and digital media in non-Western, post-Capitalist, and turbulent cities.
Featured Program Tracks
Reflexive Architecture Machines
A session series exploring architectural computation, feedback, and the design of responsive built environments as part of the MediaCity 4 conference program.
Architecture and Situated Technologies Symposium
A symposium convened within the conference to investigate how situated technologies reshape architectural thinking and the urban fabric.
Hida Workshop
A workshop component featured in the MediaCity 4 program, extending the conference's research themes into a focused collaborative format.
Across three days, a dense schedule of talks, panels, and studio sessions traces how digital tools and urban conditions shape one another in cities often left out of mainstream architectural discourse. Rather than treating media as a separate layer, the program threads computation, communication, and infrastructure through everyday built form, asking how responsive environments register the rhythms of their inhabitants. Sessions are grouped into thematic tracks that move between reflexive design methods, situated technologies, and the social textures of public space, encouraging participants to cross disciplinary boundaries. Workshops extend these conversations into hands-on inquiry, while exhibition moments punctuate the schedule with quieter opportunities to read, look, and discuss work together.
